Flying into Omaha

If you are flying internationally, you will be entering into the United States via one of the airlines hubs (e.g., Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., etc.)  You will then change planes for a flight into Omaha.  Stopovers in gateway cities can usually be arranged at little of no additional cost. The following airlines have direct flights to Omaha from the following gateway (hub) U.S. cities:

  • Atlanta (ATL) – Delta, Southwest;
  • Charlotte (CLT) – American;
  • Chicago (MDW) – Southwest;
  • Chicago (ORD) – American, United;
  • Dallas (DAL) – Southwest;
  • Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) – American;
  • Denver (DEN) – Frontier, Southwest, United;
  • Detroit (DTW) – Delta;
  • Houston (HOU) – Southwest;
  • Houston (IAH) – United;
  • Las Vegas (LAS) – Allegiant, Frontier, Southwest;
  • Los Angeles (LAX) – American;
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) – Delta;
  • Newark (EWR) – United;
  • New York City (LGA) – Delta;
  • Phoenix (PHX) – American, Southwest;
  • Salt Lake City (SLC) – Delta;
  • San Francisco (SFO) – United;
  • Seattle (SEA) – Alaska Airlines;
  • St. Louis (STL) – Southwest;
  • Washington D.C. (DCA) – Delta, Southwest.

It is highly recommended that you arrange a stopover in one of these gateway cities to adjust to United States time.  You can arrange a stopover in a city upon leaving Omaha if it fits your circumstances.  In general, it is better to book flights as soon as possible.

Note that it is recommended to arrive in Omaha on Tuesday, June 28, since there is a large event in Omaha that ends on Monday, June 27.  While flights into Omaha should be plentiful on Monday, June 27, hotel prices are likely to be much higher on that Monday night. Note that you will have to meet the then current covid requirements (see entry into the U.S.A. and Visa requests below).

Entry into the USA and Visa Requests

VISA: Entry into the United States from some countries requires a visa.  For current visa requirements, check the following website: https://www.usa.gov/enter-us

Please contact Professor Larry Teply if you need an invitation letter to secure a visa as soon as possible.  teply@creighton.eduPlease provide any information needed for the letter (e.g., full names, passport numbers, etc.).

COVID REGULATIONS: As of now, there is a vaccination and COVID testing requirement for entry into the United States.  Your airline should provide you with the requirements they are enforcing.  The following link provides more information on the requirements: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/noncitizens-US-air-travel.html

Hotels and Transportation

Because team budgets and needs vary, no one hotel is being designated as the competition hotel.  You will most likely be spending five nights in Omaha.  Omaha has a large number of hotels in the downtown/stadium/old market area near Creighton less than one mile from the Law School.  For budget purposes, lower cost hotels will be in U.S. $150 to U.S. $250 range, including all taxes and fees.  More deluxe hotels are around $250-$350 range less within one mile from the Law School, including all taxes and fees.  Creighton has discount arrangements with the following hotels in Omaha with links for booking them online: https://campustravel.com/university/creighton-university/

The lowest priced option and the closest to the Law School on the Creighton link is Holiday Inn Express & Suites Omaha, 2431 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE 68102.  It prices 1 king for five nights for a total of $728.16 and it prices two queens for five nights for a total $792.26.  The IHG website prices the same rooms as King $162 per night (total $810), Two Beds $166 per night (total $830). The hotel provides guests with complimentary local shuttle service daily from 6am-11pm within a 3-mile radius of the hotel.  It’s actual distance from the Law School is 0.57 miles.

Other hotels with higher prices get you more convenient surroundings and locale, so you would want to shop around (the following prices including taxes and fees from the IHG website with actual distance to the Law School for the five nights).  For example, Holiday Inn Omaha Downtown Waterpark, 1420 Cuming St., Omaha, NE 68102, Price: One Bed $195 per night Two Beds $199 per night Suite $237 per night Distance: 0.70 miles; Hotel Indigo, Omaha Downtown, 1802 Dodge Street, Omaha, NE 68102, Price: King $196 per night, Two Beds $205 per night, Suite $291 per night Distance: 0.58 miles); Even Hotel, Omaha Downtown – Old Market, 2220 Farnam St, Omaha, NE 68102 Price: King $238 per night, Two Beds $242 per night, Suites 259 per night Distance: 0.58 miles).  The same is true for Marriott properties (prices including taxes and fees from the Marriott website with actual distance to the Law School (Residence Inn Downtown Old Market 106 South 15th Street, Omaha, NE 68102, Price: King studio, sofa bed $240 per night, Queen, sofa bed 1 bedroom suite, $263 per night. Distance: 0.7 miles; Element Midtown Crossing, 3253 Dodge Street, Omaha, NE 68131 Price: King studio suite $225 per night, Distance: 0.9 miles; Omaha Marriott Downtown Capitol Entertainment District, 222 North 10th Street, Omaha, NE 68102 Price: 1 King $349 per night, 2 Queen $355 per night Distance: 1.0 mile; Courtyard Old Market, 101 South 10th Street, Omaha, NE 68102 Price: King $315 per night, 2 Queen 381 Distance: 1.0 miles.

A couple of the hotels linked on the campus website still have special event rates (e.g., Fairfield Inn Old Market).  Please ignore them.  Other hotels than the ones listed on the Creighton website above are available hotel chain websites and even lower prices may be available through Orbitz and Expedia.  It is suggested that you use only refundable rates.  You can check for hotels via the above website to compare prices.  Cheaper accommodations can be further found away from campus or across the river in Council Bluffs casinos, central, or west Omaha or near the airport, but you would likely need car rental.  Omaha has taxi services, Uber, and Lyft.  Some of the hotels in the downtown area provide free shuttle service in a three-mail area.  Many also have free airport shuttles.  (The airport is close to downtown).  Most hotels provide free breakfast and there are likely to be free lunches served at the law school.  In general, it is better to book rooms early.  For further advice on hotels, please contact Professor Larry Teply at  teply@creighton.edu.
